Daniel R Clark

Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry Department

Dr. Daniel Clark is a clinician-scientist and is actively engaged in basic and translational science research as well as the clinical practice of periodontics. Dr. Clark’s laboratory focuses generally on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate inflammation in bone. Injury to bone initiates a highly coordinated immune response that involves the propagation of inflammation, active resolution of inflammation, and promotion of regeneration. Of interest in the space health sciences, is how space flight would affect bone and tissue healing.   Perturbations of the immune response as a function of microgravity have been previously identified and may have significant consequences on healing outcomes following injury. However, the effect of microgravity on the inflammatory response during tissue regeneration and how to regulate inflammation to best promote healing needs to be better explored.
