Giuseppe Intini

Giuseppe Intini is a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He graduated with DDS degree from the University of L' Aquila, in Italy, and subsequently obtained a residency certificate in Periodontology at the University at Buffalo, NY. After that, at the same University, he obtained a PhD in Oral Biology/Tissue Engineering. He then moved to Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, first as a postdoctoral fellow and then as an Assistant Professor. In 2018 he joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. In addition to his primary appointment at the School of Dental Medicine, Dr Intini is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology/Oncology) at the Medical School and a member of the Hillman Cancer Center and of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He is a co-director of the Pittsburgh Center for Interdisciplinary Bone and Mineral Research and holds a position as Visiting Professor at the University of Siena School of Dental Medicine, in Italy. As a clinician and a scientist, Dr. Intini is involved with clinical and didactical education, as well as with basic science research. He attends the pre-doctoral and postdoctoral clinics and teaches periodontology to dental students and periodontics residents. As a scientist, Dr. Intini studies bone biology and cancer biology. His research is funded by the NIH, CASIS/NASA, and by other entities, including the Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma foundation and the Osteosarcoma Institute. Dr. Intini’s research in the field of Space Medicine focuses on the effects that microgravity has on skeletal stem cells and on bone homeostasis. The final goal of this research is to develop novel therapeutic tools that can help regenerate bone and prevent osteoporosis during spaceflight, and on Earth for patients in need.
