Kevin Pursel is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He graduated with a DMD degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1993. He went on to complete a two-year general practice residency at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and served as Chief Resident in Hospital Dentistry in his second year. He is a general dentist with twenty-seven years of experience delivering “advanced dentistry with a hometown touch” in private practice. As an early adopter of technology, Dr. Pursel has employed laser assisted dentistry, digital scanning, and other technologies such as CAD/CAM same-day dentistry. He is a lifelong learner that regularly participates in continuing education and takes online classes to feed his curiosity. In 2002, he earned an MBA degree from Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. Over the course of his career, he has held many formal and informal leadership positions; such as Regional Dental Director, Invisaleader, and Co-Chairman of the Clinical Culture Committee. Dr. Kevin Pursel has also worked as a product evaluator, clinical instructor for a dental laser company, and as a practice consultant. As a relentless problem-solver, Dr. Kevin Pursel can relate to and devise solutions to the multiple challenges that dentists, their teams, and their patients face, and can make complex concepts understandable with well-honed verbal and written communication skills. As a clinician, Dr. Pursel is involved with clinical and didactical education, of pre-doctoral dental students. His interest in the field of Space Medicine is the deployment of automation and digital dental technologies (artificial intelligence, 3D printing, digital scanning, CAD/CAM, digital workflows, nanorobotics, etc.) in the diagnosis, manufacture of restorations, and delivery of treatment in remote environments, such as spacecraft or extraplanetary bases.
